1. What kinds of differences are there in the durability and safety of trampolines on the market?
There is a wide range of trampolines available on the market with a lot of variation in quality, price, safety or other functions or features. Just by quickly looking at any of the trampolines out there they all may look alike. And this may lead many of us to make the wrong buying decision. But you will find very distinct differences when you take a closer look at them and their specifications.
One of the biggest differences is in the durability of trampoline frames, where the diameter and thickness of tubes play a big role. The wider the diameter and thicker the wall of a tube, the stronger trampoline is. There are also major differences in the number and length of springs and in the pre-stress of a spring. These spring-related issues have the biggest impact on the jumping properties of a trampoline. In addition, a large difference can be found in trampoline spring pads too – there are enormous variations in the thickness, width and material of a pad.
The pre-stress and length of a spring and the total number of springs in trampoline are the three (3) most crucial factors that create the bouncing properties of a trampoline. Therefore in designing trampolines, ACON has always put a lot of emphasis on these bouncing properties to make kids´ jumping experiences as comfortable as possible.
2. What is required from a spring or springs to make a good trampoline?
In order to have good bouncing properties in a trampoline, the focus must be on springs since springs have the greatest impact on jumping properties. Keep in mind that one can find many kinds of springs on the market that also vary in material quality, which is directly proportional to their lifetime and load capacity. A good spring must have good stretch, high pre-stress and high resiliency. With a longer spring and with a higher pre-stress in it, you can make much higher and more comfortable bounces. Also, the more springs you have on a trampoline, the higher its load capacity. In order to have excellent bouncing properties in your yard trampoline, the required pre-stress of a spring should be more than 13.2 lbs (6kg) and the length of the spring should be more than 8 ½ inches (21.5 cm). The number of springs on a 14ft round trampoline, for instance, should be at least 96.
3. What are the main differences in trampoline frames?
The thickness and diameter of a trampoline frame tube has the biggest impact on overall durability and sturdiness. Therefore, the heavier the trampoline is the stronger and more durable it is likely to be. The quality of welding and shape of a trampoline´s frame, for instance, affect its sturdiness, but with round trampolines these factors are not as significant. A privately-used round backyard trampoline (12/14/15 ft) is strong enough in terms of frame quality if its frame diameter exceeds 1 57/64 in (48mm) and tube thickness exceeds 5/64 in.
4. What about use in winter or corrosion protection?
A trampoline frame that is galvanized on both the inner and outer sides of its tube has the longest lifespan. A tube will readily corrode if only the outer surface is galvanized. Trampoline mats and pads need to be UV-treated and strong enough to withstand changing weather conditions. Trampolines that are designed to last year-around use are of excellent quality. 5. What kind of a trampoline is safe?
First of all, a good and safe trampoline must meet or exceed all required safety standards. A safe trampoline always comes with a safety net or enclosure and it has a well-written user manual and extensive safety instructions on it. Trampoline´s frame must be strong enough to hold the weight of jumpers. Trampolines usually have weight limits. A trampoline pad should be soft and thick enough to absorb body hits on it. Also the “spring pad” should be wide enough to cover all the springs underneath it and it should extend to cover the outer frames completely and on the other side, even overlapping slightly with the trampoline mat so that no feet can fall through a space between springs. A good backyard round trampoline pad is covered by UV-treated PVC and is at least an inch (1in/2,54cm) thick and 11.5in (29cm) in width.
6. When purchasing a trampoline, what else should be taken into account (warranty, spare part availability etc.)?
When purchasing a trampoline, make sure that the trampoline comes with at least one (1) year warranty and it has 100% spare part availability. Usually the longer the warranty the better trampoline. If a trampoline is backed up with a long warranty period and 100% spare part availability as well as an extensive supply of accessories, this should prevent the buyer from becoming an unsatisfied customer.
7. How do you benefit from using a trampoline?
Trampolines improve your coordination, strength and stamina. They can be used as excellent pre-training equipment for almost any kind of sports. They can also be used in rehabilitation treatments and osteoporosis prevention. They’re a lot of fun for the whole family regardless of your age!
